Semis against Murray

20.03.2009 | Tennis

Roger held off a late rally from Fernando Verdasco to score a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory Thursday night in Indian Wells, advancing to the semi finals.

Roger had a great start and continued well into the second set, taking a 4-1 lead. However, Verdasco got on a run and broke Roger twice, including the 11th game to take a 6-5 lead to serve for the set. “I don't think I served great in those games, and I think he got some good hits in,” Roger said. “Because he's got such big shots, especially his forehand, he can put you under pressure quickly.

Roger fought off set points, taking the second set into the tie-break where he raced out to a 5-1 lead and later finished with a service winner.

Roger will play Andy Murray in the semis, which will be a rematch of the U.S. Open final, which Roger won in the fall. "He's a great player and great players are tough to play against," said Roger. "He's young, so you still have to figure him out a little bit. He's changing his game as time goes by. Every time you play him, he plays a bit different. I'm aware he has beaten me more than I've beaten him but, on big occasions, I think I came through."

Yes ... coach is a must. But I guess everyone will agree its small things (little tweaking here and there and you won the second set). So needs to practice those things who can read other players' games.

What really scares me is that Roger is unaware of the fact that Nadal and Murray are in the back of his head and under his skin and the mental block against them is going on and on, and yet he doesn’t wants to have a coach on his side. He continues to pla

Federito (I have to explain why I call you like this... well in spanish when we want to call somebody in a sweeter way... we usually put a "ito" or "ita" at the end of the name...) so... for almost 2 years I've been calling you Federito :)...

My point

Freakin' Jason Goodall, asking how is Roger going to explain this one away? There are only so many losses to one opponent you could explain away. Shut the hell up!!

Roger's serve was off, which is a clear sign that he's not 100%, which Roger will NEVER

I hate it when you lose to Murray ... All he does is keep on getting the balls back and you make unforced errors. Its true that your game style is different :( BUT it hurts when you lose to him... You are the greatest player ever please beat him next time

Roger man,

You screwed up man - big time :)... Almost funny what a bad loss to White Fang :D. It's like there was someone else on the court... Dude - you have to come to terms that you are no longer the number one ranked player...

Not sure what the

I am shocked and surprised. Still happy though that you made it to the semis but very disappointed that you have let Murray ruin your goal to make it to the finals. This is just the beginning of the year and so much pressure murray is putting on you alrea
