Semis against Djokovic

01.05.2009 | Tennis

Roger fended off a challenge from German qualifier Mischa Zverev at the Rome Masters today to secure a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory. He will now meet defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

"He was playing well I thought from the start. He served some good serves and that made it easy for him to hold in the beginning. It made it hard for me to get the break," said Roger.

Both players made a good start into the match, taking it all the way to the tie-break. Zverev took a fast 2-0 lead - but that was not to last. Roger played several fantastic points to secure the first set 7-3 in the tie-break. The second set was completely in Roger's hands, where our champ displayed tennis in perfection and marched to a 4-0 lead.

Roger has a 7-3 winning record against Djokovic, including victories in their only two previous encounters on clay at Monte Carlo in 2006 and 2008.

I loved watching you play 1st set in semis, Roger. You looked so good! And you started the 2nd set off great, too: what a gorgeous shot into the corner 1st game and you broke him! Yeah!!! Unforced errors down--go Rog! Make it 2-0! Terrible service game fo

Set 2: What a gorgeous shot into the corner 1st game and you broke him! Yeah!!! Unforced errors down--go Rog! Make it 2-0! Terrible service game for Djoko--you've got him rattled, but he pulled it out. 2-1. Rain delay--bummer! It's raining here in TN, too

oger,

First you become a "customer" of Nadal. Then a "customer" of Murray. Now a "customer" of Djokovic.

Think about that. You are far away from your best. This is not the end of world, if you accept that your game need to be improved a lot. Seems t

Tennis was over for Roger when he lost the Australian Open semi finals to Djoker Jan 2008. He hasn't done any better since then and never will. Mark my words.

Sorry to see you lose your game.

Feel like to me you could no longer play a long match. From the late set 2 onwards, you simply cannot shoot anymore, all power out. I recall the exact scenario in AO.

Frankly speaking, Djokovic did too little to win

You need to just put in a work-man-like effort, win or lose. Result doesm't matter , as long as your process is good.

Djokovic won because he put in a more professional effort and made the needed adjustments to beat you

Seems like your adjustments

Roger,

You achieved your goal going into Rome: get into the semis, which was good. But we have to fully utilize the price you paid for not going to the finals.
1) Having a coach or not made a difference for the Rain Delay. Djoko's coach saw what he d

Dear Roger!
It is a pityful loss again against Djokovic.
You know how to beat him, but can not hold it up till the actually win.
Learn from it again and I see you next tournement. Progress is needed, but you still can play tennis (as) the best.
