Semis against Djokovic

01.05.2009 | Tennis

Roger fended off a challenge from German qualifier Mischa Zverev at the Rome Masters today to secure a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory. He will now meet defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

"He was playing well I thought from the start. He served some good serves and that made it easy for him to hold in the beginning. It made it hard for me to get the break," said Roger.

Both players made a good start into the match, taking it all the way to the tie-break. Zverev took a fast 2-0 lead - but that was not to last. Roger played several fantastic points to secure the first set 7-3 in the tie-break. The second set was completely in Roger's hands, where our champ displayed tennis in perfection and marched to a 4-0 lead.

Roger has a 7-3 winning record against Djokovic, including victories in their only two previous encounters on clay at Monte Carlo in 2006 and 2008.

what's dissapointing is that Nadal is beatable. Djokovic had a real chance to kick his ass in Monte Carlo. And djokovic and murray aren't great at all! I can't see they can be History of tennis. I want to believe Federer can win, but i think it's over. to

Serious mental problem obviously,,
Get the feeling he's trying to control the game too much, get the feel of total control he had in the old days. He needs to let go,,, and accept that he's not invincible anymore.

Roger,

First you become a "customer" of Nadal. Then a "customer" of Murray. Now a "customer" of Djokovic.

Think about that. You are far away from your best. This is not the end of world, if you accept that your game need to be improved a lot. Seems

Some people here really take this too seriously! It is just a sport after all. Let the guy have a break! Djok is a great player. If Roger wants to win against him he will have work on his conditioning and strategy. But really people don't go into a de

Roger, i have been one of your ardent fans. However, your game is has turned from bad to messy. You had ALL the chance to win the match. However time and time and time again, third tournament in the row, you have lost UGLY. because of your unforced errors
