A victory in straight sets to start off with

25.05.2009 | Tennis

Roger swept into the second round of the French Open today by defeating Spain's Alberto Martin 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.

"I started a little slowly," he said afterwards. "He plays very far behind the baseline so I had to make adjustments. Then I started to serve well. That allowed me to play more freely and I was able to dominate."

It was a bit of a rough start for Roger when he was broken in his first serve but he later levelled to 2-2. Roger then went on to break Martin for a second time in the 10th game to take the set. From then on our champ was clearly in control, dominating during his serve and breaking his opponent regularly.

Roger eased to victory in an hour and 43 minutes, setting up a second-round meeting with either José Acasuso or Santiago Ventura.

What a match! Good win! At 1-2, We fans did get our back chilled.

Congratulation, you backhand come quite close to your best. You do have a good chance to win Nadal with the absence of your biggest weapon.

Anyhow, see if this is useful.

I believe Acasuso made a name in the US years ago for upsetting Roddick at Roland Garros when Roddick was just about highest in his ranking. I'm quite sure Acasuso remembers that and drew belief from it.

Second, rain stopped matches yesterday evening.

Actually looking at the match statistics it is hard to believe that Roger was having trouble - his firs serve percentage and winners were very good but he did have quite a few UE (but must consider the match was four sets not two or three). Hopefully he

wow I can't believe he came back from 2-6 to win the tie-break 10-8. He must have been surprised by Aracuso in the first sets and then he figured out what to do to beat him. Congratulations Roger!!

Boy, am I glad I am at work and didn't have much time to worry! Happy that he won, though.

I will watch the recording of the match later today. Much more relaxed when you know he won ;-)

Congratulations, Roger!

The 1st tie break was 10-8 to Roger--he was down 6-2 or 3 came back, 2nd one was plain sailing 7-2 or 3.

Too tired to think as it is 1am here 'down under'

With Acasuso was a very tough match, he played very well (is a good player, especially on clay) but you won, and i'm happy for that :) it was the only thing that matters, the victory... now, let's win the next matches! GO ROGER GO
