A victory in straight sets to start off with

25.05.2009 | Tennis

Roger swept into the second round of the French Open today by defeating Spain's Alberto Martin 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.

"I started a little slowly," he said afterwards. "He plays very far behind the baseline so I had to make adjustments. Then I started to serve well. That allowed me to play more freely and I was able to dominate."

It was a bit of a rough start for Roger when he was broken in his first serve but he later levelled to 2-2. Roger then went on to break Martin for a second time in the 10th game to take the set. From then on our champ was clearly in control, dominating during his serve and breaking his opponent regularly.

Roger eased to victory in an hour and 43 minutes, setting up a second-round meeting with either José Acasuso or Santiago Ventura.

Acasuso is playing well -- but he has lost it mentally and Fed is pushing him. He is also fatigued and after losing 3 rd set is done.

Fed has found his shots. Great stuff.

I just started watching this match. It looks to me like Roger is determined to win it. When he gets this mind set don't worry, he will win.

so did roger use the same variation when fighting nadal in madrid?

or was he mainly defensive because of a strong acasuso?

acasuso playing great match. He was holding his serve really well not giving Roger many opportunities to break him except now when he doouble faulted at 15-40 and federer up 2:1.

Anybody enlighten me here... i only have the live-ticker and the stats (except unforced errors) are quite ok.

Is acasuso playing his best match ever or is something else going on? (According to the stats roger is focused)

It is not over yet, he still has to win and then we can breathe a little, but we must keep sending him positive and strong vibes, and so prays.
