Roger cruises into round three

24.06.2009 | Tennis

Roger produced a sublime display to beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second round at Wimbledon today. It took him just 89 minutes to secure the 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

"The opponents are only going to get tougher. I'm playing great at the moment, and I hope it is going to last," he said. Roger server brilliantly, losing only three points on his first serve and breaking his opponent regularly. He was in superb touch as he broke twice to take the first set 6-2 and, after saving two break points early in the second, a stunning winner saw him break as he won the set 6-2. He then eased through the third set 6-4.

After a break on Thursday, Roger will face Philipp Kohlschreiber in round three on Friday. He has won all three encounters with the German so far.

Did anybody see that? Kohl slipped and couldn't get Roger's ball, that's the power of Roger's ball, it blew Kohl away. Go Roger go, I like that a lot.

Kohlschreiber is making some nice shots, I didn't expect him to play this well. Although, Federer is still outplaying him by a mile.

Well, it's Soderling then cos he has just defeated Almagro in straight sets. I guess Roger will play a huge game against him to win and pull everything out in the bag because the fresh wound of losing to Roger in the FO finals is still there but Roger wil

Don't worry about one double fault - Roger is ahead 3-1. He probably tried to hit the line. He is serving very well overall.

Yikes, I hate seeing those double faults from our Roger. Those are the things that the other top guys will really take advantage of.

I'm thinking it's Soderling, but that could change because in order for Soderling to play Fed, he'd have to win his match today.
