Roger eases into quarters

29.06.2009 | Tennis

Roger won his fourth-round match today at The Championships in Wimbledon. It was the second time this month that he defeated Sweden's Robin Söderling, this (eleventh) time the result reads 6-4, 7-6(5), 7-6(5).

"This was a serving contest and so it's hard to judge my form just by this match but I have been happy with the way I played in the first week. It was a really dangerous match and thank God he served a double fault because it could have been a fourth set," Roger said.

Roger won the first set by breaking the Swede in the 10th game. After that, both players held serve until the end of the match, fighting closely in both tie-breaks. Söderling took a 3-2 lead in both of those, but Roger once again showed his class during the important points, eventually taking home both sets. He is now 69-1 in his last 70 matches on grass overall!

Roger will now meet either Fernando Verdasco (ESP) or Ivo Karlovic (CRO) in the quarter finals on Wednesday.

Terrific win by Tommy Haas age 31 - makes me laugh to remember people saying Roger was 'too old' at 27 to win anymore ha ha - but sorry Tommy you will have to lose on Friday. Roger will have a tough match for sure but he knows better maybe what to expect

So Haas wins again against Djoko, a repeat of their finals in Queens 2 weeks ago. Haas will now play Roger in the semis, Djoko didn't have too many chances and didn't have momementum even when he won the 3rd set. Haas was really poised to win this match ,

Yesterday I wished for the sun to get into Dr. Ivo's eyes so he can miss a dozen serves, well the sun was in his eyes he had to wear shades ..lol .. but then he looked more intimidating.. but our tennis God .. dealt with him brilliantly.
