One Step Further Down Under
The match that everyone was looking forward to did not turn out to be the thrilling encounter like at the US Open five months ago. Roger dominated throughout to win 6-3 6-4 6-4 in just 99 minutes.
"I had to serve well to stay in the match and I took my chances", Roger said. Agassi did not show a weak performance, but Roger was able to make the important points, managing a break in all three sets without losing his own serve.
Roger started in an excellent way, served very well (11 aces in the first set, 22 in total) and made the first break for a 4:2 lead. Andre Agassi saw two chances for a re-break but Roger showed an impressive defense.
Roger will now meet Marat Safin (Russ/4) in the semi-finals on Friday in a match of last year's finalists. Safin defeated Slovakia’s Dominik Hrbaty 6:2, 6:4, 6:2.
