Roger cruises into quarter finals

07.09.2009 | Tennis

Roger did not have any difficulty defeating 15th-seeded Tommy Robredo today, booking a spot in the quarter finals with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 victory. He has now won his last 38 matches in New York!

It was yet again a rather typical match between the two players: Robredo showed a strong start, but Roger was too strong and constant in the long run. Roger moved on in 1 hour, 48 minutes with the help of nine aces and five breaks. He held his serve throughout the predictable bout and is now 9-0 lifetime against Robredo.

Next up is 12th-seeded Robin Söderling. Roger has played the Swede eleven times, dropping only one single set in the process.

All Roger needs now is to break Soderling and regain his confidence and run with the match, hope he can do it now.

Roger not looking sharp again like he did in the 1st 2 sets I guess it hurts really bad to be up 4-0 in a tie break and lose it, better relax b4 u get broken

Roger is angry now, I hope he doesn't start making mistakes, he should just stay calm and take it easy, Djoko lost a set today, same with Federer, this is becoming routine now, just so upset right now but I know Roger will run with this set sooner than la

He shouldn't have let it to go to a tie break but it doesn't matter at all.

Roger carelessly loses the 3rd set, WTF? He was leading 4-0 in the tie break and just let Soderling in for a sec there and we are headed for a 4th set. Why!!!!!!!!! OMG! I can't believe I will stay awake for another hr,
