Roger out early in Paris

11.11.2009 | Tennis

Roger had to accept an early defeat in Paris against Julien Benneteau at the BNP Paribas Masters today: 6-3, 6-7(4), 4-6.

Roger had not dropped a set against Benneteau in their two previous meetings. He raced to the first set today, showing tennis on a high level. But the second set turned out to be less one-sided and Roger even fell back rather clearly in the tie-break. Our champ seemed a little irritated and had to save three break points early in the decider but Benetteau took advantage at the fourth attempt to edge a lead he then did not lose, finishing the match in just about two hours.

In Roger's seven visits of the tournament, his best performances remain three quarter-final rounds.

just_a_fan : fully agree with you. wonderful post. Don't know what happens to some "fans". Nobody is able to be in top form every single day. He is number 1 now. Even if he will be number 2 by the end of the year ? What's the matter ?

I think Roger has to win one match to defend his 200 points from last year... Then even he looses the other 2 he will have 10100 points.

If Rafa wins 2 games and wins semi he ll get to 10050. So if Rafa does not win the finals and loo

Just make sure, If rafa reaches the semis in london you reach the semis too. Because if he wins the tournament in London he can clinch the No.1 ranking. But if you can make it till the semifinal or final; even if he wins the tournament, he cant be NO.1. Y

Hi Roger, this is your fan from Singapore. I have watched your matches for many years n noticed that u do better in grand slams cos u tend to take a long time to warm up which u can't afford to in normal atp tournaments with the best of two sets. Perhaps
