Roger just makes it through!

27.11.2009 | Tennis

Roger had to face a second consecutive defeat by Juan Martin Del Potro today, but has nevertheless qualified for the semi-finals at the World Tour Finals in London! Our champ lost 2-6, 7-6(5) and 3-6.

There was quite some confusion regarding the tournament regulations today, but it was eventually clear that Roger needed to win just one set in order to book a spot in the semis. Del Potro served excellently and also showed a strong display, especially in the starting phase. Roger battled to stay in the match and waited until the very last moment to make it to the next round as he fought back from a mini-break back in the tie-break to eventually convert the first set-point he had.

In the end, all came down to one game, with Roger winning the group and Del Potro pipping Andy Murray courtesy of his 45 games won to 43 lost, while the Scot's record read 44-43!

The loss here felt tough but the training in the coming off season would come even tougher (than his this year's).

@ boting

but isn't that life? New young players will come up and eventually start winning just as federer did when he started his cycle...but we are quick to forget aren't we?

If we criticise roger this year then every other player should happily re

I believe what boting would like to say is Roger deserves the No.1 this year but this tournament shows the gap between top players are much smaller than in his old days.

This match is a good reminder to Roger though, I believe our Roger will make his w

did you watch the french open final? That was some of the best tennis of the year. Did you watch any of the aussie open, cinci final or any of the wimbledon championships?

Hi Roger,

What's happening in the last matches? U had lots of break points but take almost none. This only is decreasing ur confidence. Since ur lost in USOpen, u had chances to win all tournaments but for not taking the break points, u finaly lost the

THE ONLY SET OF TENNIS ROGER PLAYED THIS YEAR THAT WAS EXACTLY LIKE THE "OLD FEDERER " OF 2004-2007 WAS THE FIRST SET AGAINST SODERLING IN THE US OPEN.

Federer hadn't played anyone of quality since the Us open until this week (except the basel final). So expecting him to win it all after being off for 6 weeks and not really having much match practice against quality opposition is a little unrealistic. Yo
