Roger opens season in Abu Dhabi

Roger opened his 2010 season in Abu Dhabi today. He was beaten in three sets by Swede Robin Söderling (ATP 8) at the high-profile exhibition tournament: 7-6(6), 6-7(1), 2-6.

 

Roger commented: "Obviously it's hard to start playing against him but I had fun." He will be playing his first ATP tournament next week in Doha.

 

This week, Roger also announced that he will skip Switzerland’s Davis Cup first round in Spain in March.

I am very sorry to hear that you lost your first match to Soderling. Makes me get out my tape of your Fench Open win and watch it again.

That was a good start to the season Rog,considering that you weren't taking the match too seriously and were experimenting with your shots,which is good coz I think that's what exhos are for:)

I just knew the Swede, Soderling would do it. Glad to see he has started off 2010 so well. But I piety poor Nadal with his knees. Hate to see a good player go down with injuries.

Good to see you back..
It was a good warm up, never mind that you lost.
You played it like an exho, trying new things but Soderling played it like it was a serious match but still it goes to 3 sets.
