Semi-Final in Indian Wells

18.03.2005 | Tennis

Roger was relentless in beating Germany's Nicolas Kiefer 6-4, 6-1 in the evening match to advance to the semi-finals. He will now face Argentina's Guillermo Canas who outbattled Englishman Tim Henman 7-6 (7/1), 7-5. Roger moved one step closer to defending his Indian Wells title and improved to a tour best 24-1 on the season. He needed just 67 minutes to oust Kiefer, firing four aces and winning 57 of 94 total points. "I haven't lost a set. I have been playing really well," Roger said. "Sometimes you win matches and if you are No 1 in the world you still don't feel very happy. But this week has been good." Roger has beaten Kiefer the last three times they have played after losing three of their first four meetings. "The matches I lost to him were always tough and tight," Roger said. "But in the beginning of my career my game didn't really match up too well with him. Now I am playing the right shots at the right time. Also my serve has improved so much over the years, and this has made a difference."
