Final in Wimbledon

06.07.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his semi-final against Novak Djokovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 today to book his spot in Sunday's final.

"I'm obviously ecstatic, I'm so happy," Roger said after the match. "I played a great match. It's been a tough tournament for me but I was able to play some fantastic tennis today. I thought Novak also played well. The first two sets went by so quickly but then I was able to step it up a bit. Maybe I got a bit lucky because he also had break points in the third set but it feels great to be in the Wimbledon final."

Roger made a perfect start and never gave Djokovic the chance to take a lead. He won the first set thanks to a break at 4-2. Even though Djokovic recovered in the second, Roger was able to fight off a break at 4-4 in the third set - and was unstoppable after that. Our champ made use of his first match-ball to seal the victory after just over two hours of play. The crowd honoured him with standing ovations.

Roger is the first man to reach eight Wimbledon finals. He will either play Andy Murray (ATP 4) or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP 5) on Sunday. If Roger wins the title, he will regain the top spot in the ATP World Tour rankings, where he can equalize Pete Sampras’s record of 286 weeks at No. 1!
