Successful start

17.03.2008 | Tennis

Roger began his bid for a fourth Indian Wells title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

"I'm happy the way it went today," Roger said - having lost to Guillermo Canas in the second round last year. "I could have taken more chances, I think, and could have won even more easily. But the way it went, I was very happy."

Our star said he moved pretty quickly on court. "I was happy with that. No breathing problems, no pains or aches, so everything was fine."

Roger had competed in only two ATP events this season after succumbing to mononucleosis (glandular fever) at the end of last year.

Roger will meet Nicolas Mahut (FRA) in the next round.
