Is there something you always carry with you for good luck, something that is very special to you?
Yes, a ‘Tweety’ dressed like a ladybird.
How do you feel after your first victory against André Agassi, one of the biggest personalities in tennis?
Actually the victory itself was more important than it being the first victory against André. Winning against such a charismatic person and idol is a great feeling. There was definately also a lot of luck involved, but I am very proud – also to have been able to beat him in his home country.

Have you ever taken ballet or any type of dance classes?
No.
I just wondered what you do with all the stuff you win (which is quite a lot). I mean what happens to your trophies or the cars you win?
I am a big fan of those cars and that is why I usually take the prizes and not the money.
I display my cups and trophies in a nice shelf and the special ones get specific places where I put extra lighting so they are clearly visible and decorate the room.
What colour is your room at home and what do you have on your walls?
It is white and grey, there are pictures and photos on the walls.
What’s the best gift you have received from a fan?
Pictures, jewellery and great letters. A group of very close fans has handed me over several letters in red envelopes personally and I recently received an FCB-shirt (my local soccer club) saying ‘2004 roger No. 1’.
Do you think as time goes on (as you get older) that you will cut events out to prevent injury, or will you play as much as possible and do what you are doing now?
No, I will cut out. 2004 will be easier than 2003 - I have a less intense schedule this year (e.g. exhibition match to start off with and no tournament). I am still learning and trying to find my own rhythm. If I do not do well at a tournament I might decide to play one more or so – always also depending on the Masters race.
How do you stay healthy enough to play so many events and fulfil your Davis Cup obligations?
Well, I guess I am lucky. I try to work a lot with my physiotherapist and find enough for regeneration. It is my own decision how many tournaments I play during the season and 2003 was very close to the limit.
What was the first thing that you bought when you first won some money?
I improved the contents of my clothes cupboard and decided to take a physiotherapist along to more tournaments and travel business class at times.
Who are your friends on tour? Max obviously, but who else do you like and get on well with - chat with and maybe do things with?
I am lucky to speak three languages and this opens many doors to making friends with other players. I reckon I have an excellent contact with many other players on the Tour. I do spend a lot of time with the other Swiss players when they are also at the tournaments.
