ATP - TOKYO AND SHANGHAI

Dear Fans

I am disappointed that I have to withdraw from Tokyo and Shanghai as they are two of my favorite cities in the world and the fans have been great to me over the years.  After consultation with my team and doctors, I decided to take the difficult decision to withdraw from both tournaments so that I can give my body a chance to rest, rehabilitate and fully recover from a physically challenging year.

Kind regards
Roger

Hi Roger,

That's a smart decision. Your body needs a chance to rest after a great 2009 year for you and us, your fans.

Take care.

I'm not surprised one bit by this decision , this decision shows that Roger has clearly learned the lesson from last year following the US open , he decided back then to play Madrid , Basel and then was unable to play Paris , then came his heartbearking loss to Murray in the Masters Cup , when his back couldn't take it anymore , then to add insult to injury he played those stupid exos in Asia.

The result was a very short off season , you could see in the AO final Rafa was MUCH fresher , he was resting since Madrid !!!!!

I really hope Roger starts cutting back even on Masters events next year , because the ranking is no longer crucial to him , and because from now on its' all about the SLAMS.

That's how Roger can peak for every slam , you could see clearly how Roger's back was affecting his serve even from the Djokovic match , as well as the final , it let him down when it mattered most just like it did in the AO.

Roger should have 17 GS by now , these are 2 slams he should NEVER have lost.

He should not let opportunities like this slip again , as he gets older , it will be MUCH harder to win a slam.

Buuuuuuut, we all understand your decision! Health is everything!

Frankly, besides getting in enough match play, why shouldn't Roger sit out most of the rest of the year? Yes, he enjoys indoor, but wouldn't it be better to truly have the energy for next year?

Time off allows his body to rest, and more importantly, if he chooses to devote more time to tactical, he could surprise his opponents.

Why not find some truly interesting new tricks to his game?

Roger can, for instance, hit a fine double handed backhand. Why not use it when the time is right?

He can also still be better at the net.

I want 2010 to be the year that he puts distance between himself and everyone else, definitively.

Roger and Fans,

Yup, it's not going to be the same, but I'm glad that you, Roger, have decided to put YOURSELF first. (Well, yourself, and Mirka and those little girls.......)

We will all be looking forward to watching the next time you are on the court, whenever that may be! YOU ARE THE BEST!

Proud to be a Roger Federer Fan,
Patricia

returnoftheking ---------------- p 34

blah blah blah u are talking too too much

enough ..... the same words out from your mouth about roger all the time ...... winer or loser u are against him ,so stop talking like [ i hope ] and [ i wish ] because u are hating him
and don't like the good for him ,can u till me about rafa's efforts in 09 slams?...... winning
aus open and no even the finals in the others
but roger reached all the finals and won 2 of them including roland garros and lost the other
2 in 5 sets ... also he defeated nadal on the clay court in his home town in madrid and won cinncinati in straight sets on murray and djo
... also he regained his own no'1 again ....

talk to me when the tennis give us another man
like roger in his records and his success

he is really the most successful man i have ever seen

go roger we all with u

HI. Dear Roger. Don't worry, this is the best for you. Rest and get better. You are the best, but need a little rest. Will see you soon. All my love.

Hello Federdaddy. I understand you're taking some time off. Since I don't think like a sportsman, all I think is, more time with the girls, good! I'm sure it's disappointing, but you aren't a physical wreck yet so perhaps you can go to Tokyo and Shanghai next year. by that time, charleen and Myla should be walking around and able to pull all of your trophies off their shelves! (grin). I really wonder why the tennis season can't be nine months long with three months off to recuperate like other sports. Oh well, nobody asked me, did they. I would have the official season be nine months long with the option to play additional tournaments during the off-season. Oh well, nothing much to add here after I wrote a treatise last time that didn't end up on the site because it was too long! I won't do that again for at least another year, or unless I get a brainstorm at 3:00 in the morning. I hope it's cooler where you are than where I am, although I will admit that the long spell of days over 100 degrees seems to be over. I keep telling you that you and your gang can come to Texas in the summer and get some really hot-weather training. I personally tend to like to hide out in an air-conditioned oasis during the summer months, but then, I was never fond of hot weather, even though I'm a native Texan. I just read this so far and it's pretty boring, so I'm going to sign out now. Even though you don't read my posts, I still like to make them fairly palatable for the quality control people. Take care and give the girls and their mom big hugs from me. From the back pages of Texas, Deb
