DAVIS CUP - ROGER TO PLAY DAVIS CUP

Roger explained in Beijing today that he will not only be helping Switzerland in the World Group Play-offs of the Davis Cup against Belgium (September 19 - 21 in Lausanne, Switzerland) but also in the first round of 2009.

He has not quite made all his plans for the coming season but says that "In general next year will certainly be easier. I will certainly join the team for the first round."

In order to focus fully on his singles career Roger has had to skip the first round of the season since 2005. Up until 2007 the Swiss then went on to lose and had to play the relegation, where Roger then helped out.

I'm really happy that you and stanislas have won gold..I hope you continue to play well in doubles as well as in singles..& Federer please be back as the No.1 because that is the only number which suits you..I know u'll be back with a bang and i'm hoping to see you soon as the No.1...

Roger, you are sensational anyway and proved it with that gold medal in Beijing. You were an incredible team and you helped Stan out when he started getting slightly nervous. It was refreshing to watch you back at your best. In the US Open, you should try your best (as I'm sure you will) but you should honestly not be downhearted if things don't quite work out because you will come back in '09 and show them all who's boss!

Let's not fool ourselves, as gentleman as our champ is (that's why I admire him), these losses hurt. That's right loosing to Machineman, is not a dishonor but it hurts, and it hurts a lot. There is where the right approach come in. Roger should revise his career right now and get other people on board to help him. I've said that countless times: GET ANNACONE or CAHILL!!!!!!!!!!
Roger is not holding serve as easy as he should. He is a big man and should be able to improve his serve to a level approaching Sampras explosive delivery, that's the way you make life easy for you. Roger has the talent to make a few adjustments and get much more free points on the delivery. If you look well he can work to be in better physical shape too. Another point is: driving more the backhand. Roger is loosing on a very small margin, it is nothing dramatic yet. Nadal cannot put on any one more minute of training, he is done, specially now as #1, he is a worker. That's how he wins. Roger on the other hand has space to work a little bit more. Even though Nadal is younger, his career will be short, he is exerting himself to the limit. I guaranty that behind the muscles there are issues developing, as uncle Toni said in the begining of the year about his foot. Now, if you think I want Nadal injured you are wrong. This is my analysis of his physiology. The pounding is enormous if you think you can go winning on brute force. That's why the ATP is doing a horrible job by slowing down the game so much. More artistic players like Gasquet, and some others will have no place in power tennis. And just do a test on your own tennis club, 80% of the people like Nadal above Roger. Brute tennis just sells more. The other side of this ATP police is that by slowing the game down more player will get injured. Force is having the upper hand and artistic skill, technique and fast reactions are not necessary in this scheme. How in hell a clay court player can get to the finals of Wimbledon and even win it? If Nadal likes to run the only way I would beat him is to make him run. Roger has to learn that if he wants to win anything from now on, he has to become strong, and he can. Nadal has no room anymore. So let's do it

It is a sad day today, because I know Nadal is good, but will tennis fans want to watch baseline power game all the time?

Sampras winning on his powerful serve, people switched off...nice bloke but tennis fans needed more. Along came a sweet, sensitive swiss player with the complete game and he put the 'WOW' back in tennis (in more ways than one). McEnroe said this at the time, so I am surprised he is supporting the slowing of the courts and Nadal's power game.

I know you are going through a bad patch, but please don't give in to Nadal. Please remember the fans who enjoy your beautiful game and want to see you win. You can beat Nadal, just believe in yourself.

Please be realistic and ask yourself what has gone wrong this yeat. It is obvious the mono has played a strong part, but are there any other factors? I read that you admitted you need to practice more.

I read on a site that you were pleased to win the doubles as you had someone to share it with. If that is an issue, you need to get to know your fans and I can guarantee their will be a queue whether you win or lose at all tournaments who will be glad to share your win or loss with a big hug. You will not have to ask twice!!!!

I hope you are going to prepare for the US Open and prove the critics wrong.

Roger should have more time on his hands, lots of duties he used to do will now become Nadal's burden. It is going to be interesting to see how Nadal copes with being number one.

i didn't know if it was going to hurt so much. It is really hurt. i read many comments, i knew sergi brugera was waiting to see rafa become #1. roger I still do not want you to play for the rest of the season , so you can have some rest.and be back next year to show the whole world who you really are. you can do it, and nobody in the past and present , i repeat nobobody understand the game as you do.
