ATP - ROGER TIES WITH CONNORS

Roger's 16th grand slam title has secured him some space at the top of the ATP world ranking. Quite a few changes have occurred directly behind him, though: Novak Djokovic (2) and Andy Murray (3) have moved up, Rafael Nadal has fallen to fourth place.

Roger reached 268 weeks as number one of the ATP ranking today and has thus leveled Jimmy Connors' best mark. Ahead of him lie only two further players: Ivan Lendl (270) and Pete Sampras (286). And our champ certainly is on track to breaking these rekords, too!

I pray every night for Roger to hold the number one position as long as possible. I remember the sad August day in 2008 when he became number two. It was very hurtful for me, and I was way down but regaining his leading position was so sweet.

Go, Roger and never surrender. You are a real champion. We are with you.

No one can take it away from you for long!
Of course it was heart-breaking to see it being taken away but you rightfully grabbed your spot right back.
It's clear you'll take over Lendl's weeks at the top... And you'll definitely take over Sampras' weeks too!

****Like Arevik, I remember that sad day very well, too.
We were on vacation and had decided to go for a walk to Venice but I was feeling a bit down. Suddenly a surprise that rejoiced my heart: a great smiling Roger Federer (showing his Rolex on a publicity) on a huge canvas covering buildings that were on reconstruction at the Piazza San Marco.

It was like he telling me: “Don’t suffer, I’m still here. Recovering position Nr. 1 is a question of (Swiss) time!” Since then I’ve just been enjoying each one of his matches and it has been worth it.

This record coupled with a Calendar Grand Slam will solidify your claim to the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). I believe this honor of being called this goes beyond that of Tennis, but in the world of sports.
