Roger Federer wins Cincinnati Masters title (Los Angeles Times)

With a dominant first set on Sunday, Roger Federer showed that he's in top-of-the-world form after his time off to become a father. A 6-1, 7-5 victory over Novak Djokovic brought him the Cincinnati Masters title, his first championship since his twin girls were born last month.

"That's the special part, especially winning for the first time as a dad," Federer said. "It gets me going emotionally a little bit, because I know it's been a wonderful summer."

What the Cincinnati Masters Means For Roger Federer (Bleacher Report)

Until halfway through this year, the Great Swiss seemed to struggle in the Masters Series events. Unlike in the majors, in the Masters his opponents need only win two sets against him; still a tough task, but immensely easier than winning three (ask Tommy Haas, Andy Roddick, Juan Martin del Potro, or Tomas Berdych).

Unlike third- or fourth-tier events, the best competition is usually at the Masters tourneys. That Federer could win this one just eight days prior to the US Open, in the process dominating two of his most troublesome rivals, must make the rest of the top 10 shudder.

Federer, Hot; Despite Diaper Duty (Wall Street Journal)

The suave Swiss champion has enjoyed a magnificent summer—a first-ever French Open title; an epic, record-setting victory at Wimbledon over Andy Roddick as Pete Sampras looked on in fancy clothes; and then his wife, Mirka, gave birth to twin girls in late July. Yes, there was that hiccup recently in Montreal, when Mr. Federer improbably fell to France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, but give Pops a break. Double diaper-duty hangover.

After this week's tear through the Cincinnati Masters tournament, there will be no doubts about Mr. Federer's return to Federocity. On Saturday he stopped Andy Murray—the world's new No. 2 and a player who has given Mr. Federer great discomfort—6-2, 7-6. In Sunday's final, he blazed fourth-seed Novak Djokovic, 6-1, 7-5. Mr. Federer is certain to be the No. 1 seed when the U.S. Open begins Aug. 31, unless, of course, Brett Favre decides to join the ATP.

Federer gets first victory as a dad (Globe and Mail)

World No. 1 Roger Federer defeated fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-1, 7-5 to win the Cincinnati Masters title yesterday and cement his status as favourite for the coming U.S. Open.

Federer set the tone in the second game of the match, when Djokovic saved six break points but still couldn't ward off the break of serve.

"A good start always helps," Federer said. "That was the case today." When Djokovic finally held serve in the sixth game of the match he could only look at the sky and smile.

Federer in form, wins Cincy Masters (News & Observer)

With a dominant first set on Sunday, Roger Federer showed that he's in top-of-the-world form after his time off to become a father. A 6-1, 7-5 victory over Novak Djokovic brought him the Cincinnati Masters title in Mason, Ohio, his first championship since his twin girls were born last month.

"That's the special part, especially winning for the first time as a dad," Federer said. "It gets me going emotionally a little bit, because I know it's been a wonderful summer."

His stellar season can get even better beginning next week at the U.S. Open. The Swiss star has won the last five titles there, and his performance on Sunday suggested he's fully capable of another. Djokovic hadn't lost a set all week but was never in the title match.

After winning the semi against Murray, I am convinced that our dear Roger is back to his best !! The title came no surprise , and I wish you all the best in the comming US Open .. sixth in a row, and next AO, complete Slam within 1 year !! Are we giving you pressure ? :) Haha, I believe all these are not pressure to you anymore after the historical breakthru, the 15th slam. IT's a pleasure to all when you make history yet again, very very soon !! Com'on, Roger !!

24.08.2009
Hey Rog!

Still keep it short!

All good news in the papers, I hope you are doing fine with some rest this week.

See you at the US Open.

With love from Holland,

Congrats Roger

Simply AWESOME!

It seemed like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park.

The amazing thing about that match though was he carried the luck with the net cords etc and when he got that smash back it was pure luck
So what would the score have been if you had the rub of the green?

Anyway, hope you have a good couple of days rest with your lovely family

Just can't wait for next week

Take care

JJ
